The inspiration for this piece is the 'cante jondo' (deep singing) which is the essence of Flamenco. Erkoreka incorporates some melodic and rhythmic archetypes related to this sound-world and gives a quasi-vocal treatment ofthe guitar with techniques such as pitch-bends and mordents of various kinds. The guitar writing evokes the sound produced by a flamenco guitar, incorporating some percussive elements.
