Chord symbols are shown to indicate background voice leadings and harmony. In creating songs or dances within the Latin/Jazz idiom, the composer is continually fine-tuning the music until he commits to print or sound recording. At this moment he has a version that is definitive for other musicians to see, hear and play. However, the earlier explorations are not forgotten and can be used in different performances of the music.
