The first Carus CD by the Rundfunkchor Berlin [Berlin Radio Choir] offers two large choral works with unusual instrumentation. Instead of the large, opulent orchestras required for both Charles Gounod’s "Requiem in C" und Anton n Dvořák’s "Mass in D", these works appear on this recording in skillfully arranged versions for smaller ensembles: in the Gounod Requiem the Rundfunkchor Berlin under Risto Joost is accompanied only by organ, while the Dvořák Mass acquires a special tonal color through its wind quintet accompaniment.
