Until now the accompaniment for the G major Mass has been accepted as having been composed only with strings and organ. The discovery of authentic parts in Schubert’s own hand by the editor, Bernhard Paul, including many important performance directions as well as additional parts for trumpets and timpani, has prompted a new publication of the mass in G, which becomes the authoritative edition of this popular work.
