The Harvest Of Sorrow was fifth in a collection of six songs for Piano and solo Voice, published in 1893 as Rachmaninoff’s opus 4. Also known as Song For My Cornfield , it sets a poem by Tolstoy in the style of a Russian folk-song, lamenting a failed harvest. For medium Voice and Piano. Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) was a Russian composer and pianist, who pushed the boundaries of virtuosic Piano composition through his incredible skills as a performer. Through his rich textures and expressiveness, he is often seen as the last great member, if not the pinnacle, of the European Romantic movement.
