Marko Tajcevic (1900-1984) was a Croatian composer, teacher, and music critic. He was a slow and meticulous composer, completing only 54 works in his lifetime. He confined himself to small-scale chamber works, and was considered to be the “Master of the Miniature”. Like many of his works, Songs from the Mur-Island (1938) was inspired by folk-songs from his homeland. The Mur-Island is a county in the far north of Croatia, bordered by the River Mur. These Little Pieces for Piano are suitable for any pianist of Grade 3 standard, and are sure to provide a unusual and welcome diversion from the usual exam-style pieces.
