Pierre Danican-Philidor was a member of the highly respected Danican family of French musicians. He played the oboe, flute and viol and was a member of several orchestras. In the years 1717 and 1718 he published three volumes ofmusic containing altogether twelve suites. The sixth suite (with the movements Lentement Rondeau Sarabande Rigaudon Gigue] is taken from the first volume and is immediately attractive though not too challenging for the player.
