The Butterfly Dream offers a rare glimpse into Carsten Dahl’s mind, through a collection of 14 free improvisations on the Piano. The listener travels through his inner landscape, punctuating periods of gentle, thoughtful musings with thunderous, fierce interjections; a journey that reveals some surprising but beautiful music. Carsten Dahl (b. 1967) is a Danish jazz pianist who began his career as a drummer before switching to Piano, as it would give him the opportunity to improvise bebop. He takes inspiration from classical pianists and composers such as Bach, in addition to jazz musicians. He is now one of the most sought-after jazz musicians, and is still regularly performing and collaborating.
